I know this is a relatively new endeavor, but any idea of what maintenance would be for these? And what’s the texture like? I’m intrigued

Maintenance is pretty minor, I’d recondition them if they get dry, and just keep them in a cool, low humidity place for storage.

As for texture. It’s not like any other rope material I’ve ever felt. It’s quite grippy, and flexible. Definitely work trying out if you’ve never tried before

Recondition them as you would plant-fiber rope or as you would leather?

Great question. My recommendation is leather, i don’t think they’d take plant fiber conditioners the same way as hemp or jute would

It has a very interesting feel to it…
Feels good and comfy through the hands..
I haven’t tied with it as of yet..
I imagine it would be good in floor/bedroom bondage and likely make for interesting photos as well…
It very light… feels grippy but not toothy.. so yes will grip well but not necessarily “bite” like the bite of like jute,hemp, posh. (If that makes sense)

Feels almost like a combo between both leaning more towards the suede side..
(At least to me that’s the feel)

It’s a chrome tan top grain leather. But the suede side does show itself quite a bit due to the twisting process

Next experiment on the twisting block is rawhide rope. (It’s gonna be mean)

3 sides will be not top-grain so it will feel more suede like.
If you want to get a more top grain feel for the whole length then an oil tanned or a hot stuffed veg tanned bridle leather would be both heavier, and smoother feeling.
You could replicate this with a conditioner like Leather Therapy.

Tanned seems like it might be good for those that want rope marks, but idk if it would actually work that way

Native Americans as well as some horse tack makers make some beautiful stuff from
rawhide. You might need to wet it to be able to twist. I would do a loose twist as it will tighten as it shrinks

What is it made of?

I have a black chrome tan kit conditioned with Trying's proprietary conditioner, that once baked on low (like you could for wax or butter treated plant fiber rope) has set them up beautifully for use.

I also have unconditioned hanks of the black chrome tan rope that took beautifully to conditioning with pecard's leather balm. I think any light to medium weight leather conditioner would do well, with treatment as needed when dry, as with plant fiber rope

I also have some raw veg tan in brown that I still need to experiment with, but it is much thicker, toothier, and meaner off the bat. I am planning to try Bick LP on it for conditioning.
